Job Description Salary: POSITION SUMMARY MVTA is seeking a competent and highly motivated Strategic Planning Intern that will support the strategic and long-term goals of the organization through an equity lens. The position will work closely with the Chief Executive Officer and Planning Manager and can expect to gain valuable written and oral presentation skills, a better understanding of public transportation, and a view into the Strategic Planning process. JOB DUTIES OR ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS The essential functions of the position include, but are not limited to the following: Learn MVTA---s planning and schedule development process; conduct equity analysis using Title VI; gain familiarity with Optibus scheduling system, NTD Database; read and interpret federal guidance/initiatives related to Public Transit, i.e., Justice 40 and ADA. Provide technical support by conducting research and preparing maps and graphics. Assist and support the development of the MVTA---s next strategic plan and current system-wide study. Research, collect, compile, record, and summarize technical data; assist higher-level planning staff in assembling documentation for grant development and organizational SWOT analysis. Answer questions and provide information to the public; research information and assist higher-level planning staff with current or comprehensive planning inquiries. Assist staff in implementing geographic information system (GIS) and Avail (CAD/AVL) by performing research, data entry, and site inspections. Participate in a variety of special projects as assigned. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the formal education, experience, training required, and skills/abilities. Education A college degree or be enrolled in a college degree program in planning, urban design, architecture, information sciences, engineering, or a related field of study. Experience Proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) Training, Certificates, or Licenses Valid driver---s license General Skills and Abilities Compile technical and statistical information and prepare clear and concise staff reports. Learn to read and interpret mapping and survey data, site plans, zoning codes, legal descriptions, and related information Strong analytical and critical thinking skills, and the ability to recognize and resolve problems proactively. Demonstrated program management skills, ability to work independently and successfully manage multiple projects with competing deadlines; excellent attention to detail. Strong written and interpersonal communication skills, ability to write and communicate clear and structured business cases; comfort using data to create strategic and compelling arguments. Ability to provide financial models or projections. SCHEDULE Interns will work with the Supervisor to determine a schedule, including a hybrid work environment.
