Job Description:
Mayo Clinic, a global leader in healthcare, research, and
education, is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Child Life
Specialist to join our caring team. The Child Life Specialist will
play a crucial role in providing comprehensive developmental,
educational, and therapeutic interventions for children undergoing
medical treatment. This position requires a highly empathetic,
knowledgeable individual who can create a friendly and reassuring
environment for young patients and their families during
challenging times. Assess the needs of children and families to
provide appropriate interventions. Develop and implement
individualized care plans to promote optimum development of
children facing medical challenges. Utilize play therapy to help
children express themselves and cope with hospitalization. Educate
the child and family about medical procedures, pain management
strategies, and overall health. Coordinate with healthcare team
members to advocate for the child's emotional and developmental
needs. Document patient interactions and progress in child life
services. Proven ability to assess and intervene in both
developmental and psychosocial aspects of children’s care. Strong
communication and interpersonal skills to interact effectively with
children and families. Knowledge of child development and
psychology. Ability to conduct educational programs for families
and staff regarding the impact of illness, injury, and
hospitalization on children. Medical Insurance Dental Insurance
Vision Insurance Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) credential
required. CPR certification preferred.
