Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer

The Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer handles engineering analysis and design of specific portions in a new product development program; redesign of products in a maintenance program; or a complete design project as assigned. Reviews test and customer data. Determines the causes of failures and develops appropriate solutions. Executes a project plan.

Create designs to satisfy the product objectives related to the specific areas assigned. Create marketable ideas for new and revised products.
Performs engineering analysis to predict the behavior of a proposed design and resolve design problems.
Responsible for the assigned areas of design and assures that cost, timing, durability, performance, manufacturability, and quality to meet project objectives. Conducts regular design, manufacturability, safety, serviceability, and safety reviews for the assigned areas of design.
Actively participates in the development and understanding of customer requirements through direct contact with marketing, customers, service, manufacturing, and distribution.
May provide work direction and monitor the work of lower-level engineers, designers, draftspersons, and R&D personnel assigned to the areas of design responsibility.
Works with vendors to ensure selection of application-approved, quality components.
Writes project requests, documentation, and manages all activity through release and change management using established Engineering and Development Procedures.
Communicate and coordinate work with the following and is responsible for designs achieved with their assistance: Experimental Shop, Test Engineering, CAE, Accounting, Purchasing, Drafting, Manufacturing, and Styling.
Frequently reports, verbally and in writing, on development progress and engineering analysis of product design. Keeps supervisor informed.
Performs other job-related duties as may be required.
Work in coordination with the design team to commercialize new product developments
Some drafting and detailing required
Ongoing product rationalization and process improvement and DFM activities
Coordination of FEA analysis with internal and external contacts
Implementing and maintenance of redline improvements

Professional Engineering license, or Bachelor's degree in an ABET-accredited Mechanical, Electrical, Aeronautical or Agricultural engineering program or; Master's degree in Mechanical, Electrical Aeronautical or Agricultural engineering from a university with an ABET-accredited undergraduate engineering program
A minimum of three years' experience, preferably in the construction or agricultural machinery/attachments industry. Relative experience is cut, formed, welded, heavy sheet steel
Successful completion of EIT requirements is desirable
Able to create and analyze component or complete product design with individual initiatives
Able to direct the work of others, such as lower-level engineers, drafters, and designers
Has demonstrated a high level of productivity through demonstrated competency in the execution of duties and successful completion of projects.
Understanding of hydraulics and low voltage wiring

Travel to test sites, distributors, customers, vendors, manufacturing facilities and others may be required.
Design decisions may affect sales, warranty, customer satisfaction, and product safety.
Keeps abreast of new technological developments, components, concepts, materials, manufacturing processes, or competitive environment, which would affect the design or design process.
